Energy Conservation

ACCO Brands actively strives to reduce its overall energy consumption.

  • The majority of ACCO Brands locations have switched to LED lighting to save energy. Booneville utilizes 100 percent fluorescent fixtures to illuminate the facility. It has saved more than $125,000 a year by switching to LED lights.  Many locations have also added motion sensors to their lighting systems to ensure lights are only on when people are in the area.

  • ACCO Brands Europe locations have also moved to energy-efficient machinery where possible. These sites have on average reduced their kwh usage by 10 percent in the last three years, which amounts to a savings of around 200,000 kwh.

  • The Tilibra plant receives the majority of its energy through hydroelectric plants.

  • The ACCO Brands headquarters building in Lake Zurich, Illinois, is Energy Star certified.

  • Derwent Manufacturing uses wood waste from its pencil production operations to heat the factory. The material is collected and burned in a large waste wood boiler. The bio-furnace runs 80 percent of the time and provides heat and hot water to the entire factory and all offices at the site.

ISO 50.001 is a voluntary International Standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to provide organizations an internationally recognized framework to manage and improve their energy performance. This certification represents the company's commitment to the efficient use and consumption of its energy resources, with significant reduction of environmental impacts. The standard addresses the following:

  • Energy use and consumption
  • Measurement, documentation and reporting of energy use and consumption

  • Development of an energy management plan and other factors affecting energy performance that can be monitored and influenced by the organization.
